Women's Winter Shelter
Through a collaborative effort of several churches and community partners, in February 2020, High Point's first Winter Shelter opened for women on the campus of West End Ministries.
The goal of the Women's Winter Shelter is to offer a safe, warm, loving and helpful place to sleep and receive nutrition and encouragement. The women are given a clean bed, dinner and breakfast and the care of volunteers and staff. Toiletries and other helpful items are provided as well as referrals.
The Women's Winter Shelter was birthed by prayer after the need became apparent. With Leslie's House remaining consistently full, concerned citizens gathered, raised necessary funds, arranged volunteers and operational needs.
The Shelter will operate yearly, December-March and is open to women without dependents 18 years of age and older. It offers 20 emergency shelter beds and hope. It opens at 6:30 pm for intakes for overnight stay. A day room is available in the West End Community Center building from 8:30 am – 6:00 pm on Tuesday and Thursday. The day room could be available on other days should there be poor weather or other emergencies like the Corona Virus pandemic.
